Tip of the Week: In order to receive respect from your child, you must
treat your child with respect and expect nothing less from your child in return. Having consistent limits and consequences
for actions helps children learn that respect for you as a person and for your rules is what is required.

Our Parenting Coach, Lori Gephart, appeared on
10/07/07 on the Jennifer show on WTAE to discuss parenting issues.
If your child seems anxious or reluctant about going to school, especially on Sunday evenings and Monday
mornings, it can be very difficult for parents as well as your child. Remember that the more you give in to their anxiety
and fears by allowing them to avoid school, the bigger the problem becomes. Calmly and supportively give the message
that going to school is non-negotiable (unless your child has a fever or other known illness). If you need help getting
your child to school, contact the school, or adult friends or family to help get your child there. Give the message
that you want to help by seeking counseling for your child, and perhaps some parenting coaching for yourself to get more tips
on how to cope with this difficult issue.
