Ask the Parenting Coach

Q: My child doesn't want to eat her dinner.

A: Children often need to eat more frequent small meals, known as grazing.  Remember not to make meals a battle.  Fighting over food can cause more serious problems, such as stopping children from recognizing signs of being full, leading to obesity later in life, or may contribute to eating disorders.  Make mealtime a pleasant family time where you connect with each other, share the events of the day, and allow children to try foods without pressure.  Offer a variety of healthy foods and snacks throughout the day.
